The Eagles

I've been watching & re-watching the Eagles documentary The History of the Eagles on Showtime over the past several weeks.  I've always been an Eagles fan.  My first taste of their music was given to me by my parents.  When I was a young kid (think late 70's, early 80's) my mom & dad went go out for dinner on Friday nights at the Airway & I was usually in tow.  There was a juke box in the place & mom would chose Take It To the Limit every time.

"So put me on a highway
And show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time"

The History of the Eagles shows all of the members, then & now, who came & went, who were the leaders, who were the followers, who were the creative ones, the angry ones, the drunk ones.  Obviously I am on the outside looking in but I see a band that was so dynamic, so harmoniously awesome, who had it all & never seemed happy.  Maybe the director chose for them to be perceived in that way.

I've read several comments from viewers regarding the documentary & some seem to think they Glenn & Don were the bullies in the band.  I didn't see it that way.  Every band has a leader & that is what they did - they led.  Obviously, their leadership skills were on mark...they are still touring in 2013.

"You got your demons, you got desires
Well, I got a few of my own"

When I hear an Eagles song, not all of them, but a greater portion than not, their music, lyrics makes me want to run.  They make me want to be a drifter.  Sound cheesey?  Yeah, I'll agree.

"I remember what you told me before you went out on your own:
"Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone."
So you can get on with your search, baby, and I can get on with mine
And maybe someday we will find , that it wasn't really wasted time"

"But every morning'
I wake up and worry
What's gonna happen today.
You see it your way,
And I see it mine,
But we both see it slippin' away"

"Well we're scared but we ain't shakin',
Kinda bent but we ain't breakin'
In the long run.
Ooh I want to tell you it's a long run."

From L to R: Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, Don Felder

Their 70's look?  Nailed it.

We've got an Eagles tribute CD (Common Threads) that I always include on any road trip mix. And I always sing at the top of my lungs - ha!

My perception is that Don and Glenn were jerks...

The only members that are considered 'members' now are those two. All of the others are now contracted musicians.

Don Felder refused to be bullied by those two, and sued for damages... and won big time. I can't recall if they settled out of court, or it went to decision.

That said, I like their music greatly, and even more so after Felder and Walsh joined...

Bug - Vince Gill's version of I Can't Tell You Why...awesome.

Shoes - not jerks! Every band member brought something to the table & I dunno, I think I would have drank Glenn Frey's dirty bath water. Is that wrong?

Uberbitch - you're Billy Idol! With a rebel yell, she cried mo' mo'!
