Good Grief

An employee had a retirement party yesterday. Initially I said I was going to attend. When the date arrived yesterday I honestly had forgotten until someone asked me yesterday morning if I were going. I said "oh shit, I forgot". As our VP was departing yesterday afternoon he said "Kimmy, will I see you later?" I responded with a no sir, I actually had forgotten about it. Why didn't I just go you ask? I was not dressed for the affair.

We have a accounting/bookkeeper person who has been here forever and bless her heart, well, bless her heart. This morning she comes in & asks where I was last night. She said several people were asking about you & they said "a no show again". Then she trots off to the break room & begins to say "how dare she not show up". So I ask this - why in the world should it matter to her?

And earlier in the week I had to complete an end of the month report. I do it every month, there is no surprise. This particular day, as the same is every Monday we only have one route that goes out to sell. The outgoing route was back into the warehouse & had completed his check up by 4:00pm. I completed my report & sent out emails to everyone that matters that the EOM settlement was completed. I was out the door by 4:18. After I departed she storms into the sales managers office and asks "Did Kim leave"...her thinking I didn't do what I was supposed to do. Her balloon was quickly deflated when our sales manager informed her that he had just gotten an email that everything had been completed.

Why are people are like this? Are their lives so small and incomplete that they have to worry about other people's business?

BTW, she is at retirement age & says she doesn't want to retire because she doesn't want to be bored (remember she is a bookkeeper). She has no children & I think her husband may be the local drunk. She takes all kinds of medicine to stay alive and loves to chat about her medical issues & if you've been sick, well she has been sicker.
