A Call to Arms

I have a friend. A friend in need. My friend is going through a tough time of adjustment due to a divorce and more than one child is involved - there are four. His soon to be ex-spouse whom we'll call the W from here on out took every bit of furniture they had & left their home in complete and total disarray. Financial devastation is also in play. The W isn't wreaking absolute total havoc on his personal life but completely dips her pointy fingers into his family life. While there are two sides to most every story and no one knows what has went on behind closed doors - I take my friend's side.

So the call to arms is this : if you have any words of encouragement, advice or anything uplifting and motivational to share with him please do so. My friend has been beaten down for so long. He is struggling and he can't see the forest for the trees.

The one piece of advice that I found valuable was the following...

No matter what, conduct yourself with a level of dignity because your children are watching. My ex tried to turn the children against me. It was brutal. Five years on, my children (two of which are now adults) can all verbalize how much they respected me during that time. Made all the difference.

I agree with BOMBSHELL.
When my parents got divorced my Mom didn't use us kids as a tool, But my father was a tool, and it was obvious to us.

If my wife and I ever split, the kids would be my chief concern. It's not a popularity contest. Be a dad and not just a father.

Just telling it like it is said...

Ditto to other bloggers

Bombshells advice is very good...children are probably just as devastated and need the parents to act maturely! I know that is so hard in a breakup. Best wishes to your friend!

My husband's ex sounds like the W..but I call her the "C" if you know what I mean. lol She uses the kids against him, lies about him, has them call their stepdad "dad" etc. BUT, the consolation is, now that they're older, they understand what goes on more and more and how she lies and are starting to resent her for it. Also, my husband and I have been happily together for 11 years and she is a miserable person, so a future of happiness can happen for him if he can look forward.
